We made it to the end of the recycling month! How did it go for your family?
I did not get the chance to put my printables in a pretty frame. Maybe when our renovation is done I’ll figure out a prettier way of doing this, but for now it was functional!
My month consisted of two recurring actions:
- Standing between our trash and recycling bins wondering what to do with the strange piece of waste in my hand.
- And googling to find out the answer.
Occasionally I also had the joy of digging through the trash when I eyed something recyclable that SOMEONE threw in the trash. I won’t name names. You know who you are.
I learned a few lessons through the month too. As good as Oreos are, those packages? Not recyclable. Those bubble wrap mailer envelopes Amazon likes to send me goodies in? Also not recyclable. Dang it.
Some companies really need to step up their packaging to make it a little more environmentally friendly! Then I’ll have one more excuse to eat an entire package of Oreos in one sitting.
So how do you feel about how you did? For the month, we had 2 bags of garbage and 4 bags of recycling. I’m pretty proud of that ratio, but I’d like to do better.
I did however learn some valuable lessons about our waste habits by keeping a closer eye on what went in each bin. The two things we threw away the most of were disposable diapers and leftover boxes.
Oh, and candy wrappers. But you’re not taking those away from me!
We already cut majorly back on our diaper waste by cloth diapering during the day, so I’m leaving that one alone for now. As far as the leftover boxes, we’ll be dealing with that next months topic: Going out.
One month down, eleven to go. Make sure to subscribe to see what challenges we’re going to tackle in the months to come!
What were your biggest struggles this month?
